Und, was liegt jetzt unter der Royal Mile? Wir fanden es heraus und erkundeten die unterirdischen Strassen und Katakomben Edinburghs aus dem 16. Jahrhundert. Marc the Foul Clenger (Pest Reiniger) konnte nicht alle von uns in seinen Bann ziehen, kein Wunder wenn eine zu grosse, 22 köpfige Gruppe in alten Gassen umherirrt. Zumindest wissen wir jetzt, wer hier herumspukt und warum, wie zum Beispiel Cathrine, die wegen eines gebrochenen Herzens starb und seither in der Mary King‘s Close herumgeistert. 

„Das ist ja viel kleiner als im Film!“ Natürlich, wir sprechen hier vom Da Vinci Code und der Rosslyn Chapel. Dank des Filmes konnten sie ihre Besucherzahlen von 9.000 pro Jahr auf 176.000 steigern. Sie wissen nur nicht wie sie diesen Besucheransturm bewältigen sollen. Den Holy Grail haben wir nicht gefunden, angeblich liegt er gar nicht unter der Kapelle versteckt. Diese Tatsache hielt aber letzte Woche nicht einen Besucher davon ab, mit einer Axt geschultert die Kapelle zu betreten und nach dem Heiligen Gral zu suchen. Er vermutete diesen in der geschwungenen Säule und wollte sich auch gleich ans Werk machen, wurde aber noch rechtzeitig von den Sicherheitskräften gestoppt.

Am Nachmittag hat uns Peter dann durch das Spukhotel Dalhousie Castle geführt. Das Hotel wird von mehreren Geistern bewohnt und natürlich gab es schon viele Klagen der Hotelgäste, dass sie scharrende Geräusche hörten, jemand sie ins Bett gedrückt hat und sie nicht mehr aufstehen konnten oder das auf ihren Fotos menschenähnliche Schatten zu sehen waren. Auch wir können uns glücklich schätzen, Tanja hat es geschafft eben solche Geistererscheinung auf ihrer Kamera festzuhalten. Unsere Geisterjagd war demnach schon am vorletzten Tag von Erfolg gekrönt.

So, what lies beneath the Royal Mile? We found it out and discovered edinburgh’s underground streets and vaults built in the 16^th century. Marc the Foul Clenger (Plague Cleaner) could not fascinate all of us, but that was no surprise with a too big group of 22 people that roam around old back streets. At least we know now who is haunting around and why, for example there is Catherine who died of a broken heart and ever since she spooks in the Mary King’s Close.

 “That is so much smaller than in the movie!” Of course, we are talking about the Da Vinci Code and the Rosslyn Chapel. Thanks to the movie they could increase their visitor number from 9.000 to 176.000. However, they don’t really know how to deal with this huge number. We did not find the Holy Grail, it is said that it does not even lie beneath the chapel. This fact could not keep away a visitor last week, who entered the chapel with an axe in order to search for the Holy Grail. He assumed it hidden in the curved pillar and wanted to start straight away, fortunately the security guards could stop him on time.

In the evening, Peter showed us around the haunted Dalhousie Castle Hotel. The hotel is inhabited by several ghosts, so of course, there are many complaints by guests that hear someone scratch at the walls, that someone pushes them into the bed so that they cannot get up or that they see manlike shadows on their photographs. Also we can account ourselves lucky as Tanja was able to take a picture of one of the spirits. So our ghost haunt was already successful on the second last day.
