Da denkt man, jetzt steht einem nichts mehr im Wege und die Reise kann endlich los gehen, da bekommt man eine Email, die einem zwar nicht den Boden unter den Füssen wegreisst, aber doch das Dach über dem Kopf. Ja, so kann es einem gehen, wenn das gebuchte Hotel plötzlich überbucht ist. Zum Glück haben wir es noch erfahren, bevor wir am Samstag an der Rezeption stehen.
Tja, das war wohl einer dieser verhexten Tage, und dass obwohl gestern gar nicht Freitag der 13. war. Deswegen wurde auch gleich ein Krisen-Meeting ausgerufen. Eine schnelle Alternative musste her, der Vorschlag des Hotels waren zwei Viererzimmer in einem anderen Hotel. Aber wollen wir das?
Am Ende hatten wir heute doch noch Glück. Nach vielen Telefonaten und Emails ist das Hotel doch noch auf die Idee gekommen uns acht Duchesses in einem Sechserzimmer unterzubringen. Also können wir jetzt doch im selben Hotel bleiben. Nur Walter Burk muss in ein nahe gelegenes Hotel weichen.
You think, now there are no further obstacles in the way and the journey can finally start, and then one gets am email which does not pull the rug out from under our feet, but does tear the roof from our heads. Yes, that happens if the booked hotel is suddenly overbooked. Fortunately we found it out before Saturday when standing at the reception desk.
Well, that was one of these days under a witch's spell, although it was not even Friday the 13th. For this reason we immediately called out an emergency meeting. A fast alternative had to be found, the hotel's proposal was to send us to a different hotel with two four bed rooms. But do we want this?
In the end we were quite lucky. After many phone calls and emails, the hotel had the idea to give us one of their six bed rooms for the eight of us. So we can stay in the same hotel. Just Walter Burk has to move to a nearby hotel.

Nach einigen Terminverschiebungen sind wir froh, dass unsere Agenda immer weiter Form annimmt. Es sind nur noch sechs Tage bis es los geht und es fehlt nur noch die Bestätigung vom Edinburgh Flughafen für Donnerstag früh. Warum das Treffen so früh am Morgen ist? Wir wollen halt ganz sicher sein, dass unser Gepäck auch ordnungsgemäss verladen wird und wieder in Genf ankommt.
Für den Sonntag haben wir eine ganztägige Loch Ness Tour gebucht um dem Nessi-Mysterium auf die Spuren zu kommen. Wissenschaftler halten die Existenz Nessis für unglaubwürdig, jedoch ist der regionale Mythos eine wichtige Einnahmequelle aus Seiten des Tourismuses. Für unsere Nachforschungen ist es ja eh nur wichtig, dass Nessi für die Touristen existiert. Und wer weiss, vielleicht sehen wir es ja doch!
Am Mittwoch Nachmitag machen wir uns auf den Weg zum Craigmillar Castle. Es ist eine mittelalterliche Burgruine, die im 14. Jahrhundert erbaut wurde und im 15. und 16 Jahrhundert immer wieder erweitert wurde. Am bekanntesten is Craigmillar Castle für den Besuch von Queen Mary. Als sie am 7. Dezember 1566 die Burg veliess, war der "Craigmillar Bond" ausgeschprochen, welcher über die Beseitigung ihres Ehegattens, Henry Stuart, bestimmte. Oder wusste Queen Mary vielleicht gar nichts von der Veschwörung gegen ihren Mann?

After some shifts in our timetable we are happy that our agenda is taking shape. There are only six days left until we leave and we only need to get the confirmation from the Edinburgh airport for Thursday morning. Why a meeting that early in the morning? Well, we just want to make sure that our luggage is loaded properly and that it will reach Geneva.
For the Sunday we booked a one-day tour to the Loch Ness in order to uncover the Nessi mystery. scientists believe that the existence of Nessi lacks in credibility, however, the regional myth is an important source of revenue for the tourism sector. For our enquiry it's just important that the tourists believe in the existence of Nessi. And who knows, maybe we will see it in the end!
Wednesday afternoon we will set off to the Craigmillar Castle. It is a medieval castle ruin, built in the 14th century and got extended through the 15th and 16th centuries. Craigmillar Castle is well known for the visit of Queen Mary. When she lest the castle on the 7th of December in 1566, the "Craigmillar Bond" was made, which regulated the disposal of her husband Henry Stuart. But did Queen Mary even know about the conspiracy against her spouse?

Die Tage bis zur Study Week werden immer weniger, unsere erreichten Milestones und bestätigten Business Meetings werden immer mehr.
Unsere Präsentation am letzten Freitag verlief rund. Die Zuschauer schienen zufrieden und wir waren auch. Unsere grösste Sorge, das vorgegebene Zeitlimit zu überschreiten, war unbegründet. Wir haben uns nicht versprochen und die kleine Überraschung am Ende der Präsentation kam sehr gut an.
Auch in unserem Programm gibt es einige Fortschritte zu vermerken. Nach vielen Emails und vielen Telefonaten hat Mélanie es endlich geschafft uns einen Besuch in einem Spuk-Hotel zu organisieren. So werden wir am Dienstag Nachmittag dasDalhousie Castle Hotel besichtigen und an einer Führung durch das Hotel teilnehmen. Der Bau des Schlosses liegt zurück im 13. Jahrhundert, aber lediglich die dicken Wände und unterirdischen Gewölbe sind erhalten geblieben. Der Bau des Gebäudes wie wir es heute sehen datiert auf das Jahr 1450. Das ändert aber nichts daran, dass die Geister ihre Spukaktivitäten weiterhin ausführen. Sir Alexander Ramsay ist eines der aktivsten Gespenster im Haus. Er war einst Besitzer des Schlosses, wurde jedoch von einem ehemaligen Freund in einem Verlies zu Tode gehungert. Kein Wunder, dass seine Seele noch keine Ruhe gefunden hat.
Bevor es in das Spuk-Hotel geht, werden wir jedoch die unweit entfernte Rosslyn Chapel besuchen. Sie ist bekannt aus dem Film "The Da Vinci Code" und wird uns sicherlich einiges berichten über den mysteriösen Heiligen Gral, aber auch über die Geschichte des Gotteshauses. Die Rosslyn Chapel wurde zwischen 1446 und 1484 erbaut und wir oft als "Bücherei aus Stein" bezeichnet.

The days until our Study Week starts are getting less and less, our reached milestones and our confirmed business meetings are getting more and more.
Our presentation on last Friday was a huge success. The audience seemed satisfied and we were it, too. Our biggest worry, to exceed the time limit, was for no reason. We didn't make any mistakes and the little surprise at the end went well.
Also in our programme we can account for some good progress. After many emails and many phone calls, Mélanie was finally able to arrange a meeting with a haunted hotel. So, on Tuesday afternoon we will be visiting the Dalhousie Castle Hotel and take part in a guided tour through the hotel. The castle
dates back from the 13th century and has preserved its thick walls
and its vaults. However, most of the present structure was built about 1450.
Nevertheless, that does not mean that the ghosts have disappeared. Sir
Alexander Ramsay is one of the most active ghosts. Once upon the time, he was the owner of the castle, however, his best friend starved him to death
in a dungeon. No wonder, that his soul cannot rest in peace.
Before going to the haunted hotel, we will be visiting the nearby Rosslyn Chapel. It is known from the movie "The Da Vinci Code" and certainly it will tell us something about the mysterious holy grail but also something about its history. The Rosslyn Chapel was built between 1446 and 1484 and is frequently described as a "Library in Stone".

Erst waren wir gar nicht begeistert, dass heute die ersten vier Stunden ausfielen. Da wir aber keine Minute ungenutzt lassen wollen, habe wir kurzer Hand ein spontanes Study Week Meeting ausgerufen.
Morgen haben wir unsere Präsentation und so haben wir die Zeit genutzt um noch ein paar Verbesserungen einzubauen und um eine Generalprobe abzuhalten. Einige von den Feedbacks, die wir vor drei Wochen erhalten haben, wurden noch umgesetzt. So haben Corina und Corinna noch einige Grafiken und Bilder verbessert und eingefügt, um so unseren Vortrag noch aussagekräftiger zu machen. Natürlich haben wir auch wieder einige Überraschungseffeke in unsere Präsentation eingebaut. Diese können an dieser Stelle aber nicht genannt werden.
Fast alle unsere Business Meetings wurden bestätigt und somit ist unsere Agenda fast ausgeplant. Schaut also die nächsten Tage wieder rein um weitere Informationen über unsere Partner und unsere Agenda Vorbereitungen zu erhalten.

At first, we weren't really happy that today our first four lessons got cancelled. However, as we didn't want to waste any minute, we quickly decided on a spontaneous Study Week Meeting.
Tomorrow we will have our final presentation and thus we used the time to integrate some improvements into our presentation and to hold a rehearsal. Some of the feedback we got three weeks ago were also realised. Thus, Corina ans Corinna changed and integrated some more graphics and images in order to make the presentation more meaningful. Of course, we also integrated some surprise effect into our presentation. Well, these cannot be mentioned right now.
Almost all of our business meetings are confirmed now, hence our agenda is nearly finalised. So, peer into our blog in the next days and get some interesting information about our business partners and about our agenda planning.

Es wird sportlich auf unserem Trip nach Edinburgh. Um ein waschechter Schotte zu werden, möchten wir natürlich nicht nur wissen wie man Whisky trinkt und Dudelsack spielt, nein, wir wollen auch ein Highland Game miterleben. Um dieser schottischen Sporttraditon so richtig auf den Grund zu gehen, werden wir Baumstämme werfen (Tossing the Caber), uns beim Tauziehen beweisen (Tug o' War) und auch herausfinden, wer die Gummistiefel am weitesten schleudert (Hurling the Wellies). Wir werden also sehen, ob diese Art des Highland Games eine interessate Möglichkeit darstellet, Touristen ein Stück Schottland und gälische Kultur näher zu bringen.
Unser Abend wird im Restaurant Ambers bei einem Haggis ausklingen. Wer sich nicht traut einen mit Herz, Leber, Lunge und Nierenfett gefüllten Schafsmagen zu essen, kann gerne auf die vegetarische Version zurückgreifen.
Unsere schottischer Montag ist damit völlig ausgeplant und wird uns eine
reiche Einsicht in die traditionelle Vielfalt Schottlands ermöglichen.
Auch den anderen Tagen wurde fleissig weiter geplant. Am Mittwoch wurde viel geschoben und gerückt, so dass wir nun die Zeit haben die Untergrundwelten zu erkunden. Mercat Tours wird uns in die Edinburgher Gruften führen und uns über die geisterhafte und unheimliche Geschichte aufklären. Werden wir dort einen der verrufenen Geister erblicken? Es wird unsere letzte Chance sein.
Aber wusstet ihr, dass die Gruften dazu genutzt wurden um dort die Leichen des Serienmörderduos Burke und Hare zu lagern? Sie verkauften diese Leichen, damit an ihnen mediziniesche Untersuchungen gemacht werden konnten. Wir wollen doch mal hoffen, dass unserer Lehrer Walter Burk damit nichts zu tun hat.
Allerdings mussten wir heute auch Niederschläge einstecken. So wollten wir eigentlich mit der Highland Explorer Tour zum Loch Ness fahren und natürlich auch ein Treffen mit ihnen vereinbaren. Nach anfänglicher Freundlichkeit und auch einer halben Zusage mussten wir leider feststellen, dass kurz nach unserer Tour Buchung von dieser Freundlichkeit nicht mehr viel vorhanden war und es ganz plötzlich auch keine Zeit mehr für ein Treffen gab.

It will get sporty on our trip to Edinburgh. To become a born-and-bred Scots(wo)man, we do not only want to know how to drink Whisky and how to play the Bagpipes, no, we also want to celebrate a real Highland Game. In order to get to the bottom of this traditional sports event, we are going to toss tree trunks (Tossing the Caber), we will prove us at a tug of war (Tug o' War) and will find out who will be the best wellie thrower (Hurling the Wellies). So we will see, if this kind of Highland Games is an interesting way to give tourists a better understanding of Scotland and the gealic culture.
Our evening will end at the Ambers restaurant with a typical Haggis. Those who are afraid of eating a sheep's stomach filled with heart, liver and lungs, can fall back on the vegetarian version.
With that, our Scottish Monday is totally filled and we will have a rich insight into the traditional diversity of Scotland.
Also the other days are planned ahead. The Wednesday meetings were jiggled and shifted, so that we have time to explore the underground world. Mercat Tours will lead us through Edinburgh's vaults and will enlighten us about the ghostly and sinister past. Will we catch sight of one of the disreputable ghosts over there? It might just be our last chance.
But did you know, that vaults were used to store the bodies of people killed by the serial murder duo Burke and Hare? They sold those cadavers, so that medical experiments could be done with them. We hope our lecturer Walter Burk has nothing to do with that.
However, we also had to suffer some setback today. Actually, we thought to go to Loch Ness with the Highland Experience Tours and also to arrange a meeting with them. After initial friendliness and a more or less confirmed meeting, we had to discover that the friendliness vanished after having booked the tour and that suddelny there were no time left for a meeting.
